Penn floor tile

A sherd of medieval encaustic floor tile with cross design, 14th century. This tile was probably made in Penn, Buckinghamshire and designed for a church or high-status building.

The illustration below was drawn by mudlark and artist Mark Sowden and shows how the design may have looked when repeated across a section of floor.
