Neck of Bartmann jug with bearded face

Fragment of Frechen stoneware vessel (also known as a Bellarmine or Bartmann jug) dating to 1550-1650. The neck of the vessel shows the grotesque face of a bearded man bearing his teeth.

Found embedded in mud during the Tower of London Thames Foreshore 2025 Survey and accessioned into the Tower’s collections.

Recorded on the Portable Antiquities Scheme (LON-A3EF6D).
